DOTHAN FIRE-RESCUE
Dothan, Alabama
The
Hackney TU1682 USAR trailer is one of two tractor
and trailers purchased by Dothan Fire-Rescue as part
of the Alabama Regional Response Team, Region 8 serving
southeastern Alabama and the panhandle of Florida.
The second trailer is designed specifically for Haz-Mat
responses (see separate profile).
The 38-ft long trailer features
13 side load compartments and a rear 12.5-ft deep
timber and shoring panel storage compartment. The
air suspension tandem axle trailer provides 1013 cu.ft.
of storage, excluding the roof top compartments.
The rear timber and shoring panel
compartment is designed to accommodate 12-ft timbers
ranging from 2" x 4"; 6" x 6";
and 2" x 12". Multiple 2' x 8' shoring panels
are stored in the vertical position for fast retrieval.
The trailer is towed by a Freightliner
M2-112 four-door cab tractor with a 410 horsepower
Caterpillar C13 engine and 4000EVS automatic transmission.
Two saddle tank provide a total 120 gallon fuel capacity
for long responses and on scene duration's. Five air
suspension seats and an air suspension cab provide
comfort for long responses for the team members. A
fold-down stainless steel desk is provided between
the rear seats for logistics.
The front bumper is extended and
incorporates a receiver for a portable 9000 lb. Warn
winch. The center section of the bumper hinges down
for winch access and permits the portable winch to
be stored in this location and removed for operation
at the left and right rear trailer receiver points.
A Will-Burt NightScan multi-directional
light tower is mounted on the forward roof of the
trailer. An Onan 25kw PTO generator provides power
through a quick-disconnect umbilical connection between
the tractor and trailer. It also powers a 250VAC,
7.9 cfm utility air compressor, two 240VAC Hannay
cord reels with power distribution boxes that split
the 240VAC circuit into two separate 30-amp 120VAC
circuits for maximized amperage output at the end
of the 200-ft cord run. Two MagnaFire tri-pod flood
lights are mounted on the front of the trailer and
a 900 watt MagnaFire flood light is recessed in the
roof pod on the rear of the trailer. All compartments
are lighted, in addition to the standard 12V halogen
lights, by 120V fluorescent lights. Multiple power
outlets are strategically placed around the trailer.
The trailer design provides low
ground height at the compartment floors (21").
All tall compartments are 43" deep from floor
to ceiling.
The tractor and trailer are 100%
multiplexed featuring a large LCD screen for operations,
textual warning, diagnostics and graphics displays.
The screen also serves as a monitor for the back-up
camera and GPS.
