The City of Raleigh Fire Department’s Hazardous Materials Response Team has chosen a Hackney TC1482 Trailer to move their vast complement of hazmat equipment. Raleigh, one of the fastest growing cities in the United States, expects to hit a population of 1.5 million in 2008. The area supports industries ranging from heavy industrial to high tech and, thus, has a high risk of hazardous material incidents.
The 35-ft haz-mat trailer features fourteen (14) exterior compartments and a rear command and logistics center. Located on the roof is a deployable observation platform, weather station monitor mast and light tower. Awnings are provided on both sides providing staging areas and facilitation of rehab operations.
The trailer is towed by a four-door cab Freightliner tractor with seating for five. All NFPA 1901 lighting, scene lighting, compartment lights, ground lights and other 12VDC features are fully integrated between the tractor and trailer using V-MUX multiplexing with quick-disconnect feature, dramatically reducing the amount of wiring between the two pieces and reducing stress related issues with connections. The tractor also provides generator power from a 25kw PTO generator connected to the trailer via a 125-amp umbilical cord connection.
