OKLAHOMA
STATE UNIVERSITY
Fire Service Training – Stillwater, Oklahoma
The Oklahoma State University is one of the worlds
premiere fire/safety degree institutions and home
for Oklahoma Fire Service Training (OFST). OFSTs
service was recently enhanced with the purchase of
a Hackney TR1882 Emergency Support Trailer. The tractor
is an International 9400i with sleeper cab powered
by a Cummins ISX, 500 hp engine. Two 150-gallon fuel
tanks provide the capability to respond anywhere in
Oklahoma without refueling concerns.
The sleeper
cab was specified due to concerns about driver accommodations
in disaster responses and provides the driver with
a virtual home-away-from-home.
The 41-ft tandem axle trailer has
16 roll-up compartment doors, plus side and rear hinged
generator service doors (sides are louvered). Four
(4) 16-ft storage compartments are installed on the
roof.
Compartments on the road side of
the trailers are loaded with slide-out trays and shelving
for supplement disaster response equipment and supplies.
Also located on the roof is a NightScan
light tower with multi-directional lamps (3 separate
flood light heads can be pointed in opposing directions).
All compartment lighting is supplemented with 36
120VAC fluorescent lights recessed in the top of compartments.
The 20-hp
air compressor, flood lighting and two cord reels
are powered by an Onan 60.0kw diesel generator using
a Cummins 4BT engine. A separate 100-gallon fuel tank
is located beneath the generator compartment.
Besides
it primary use at the training center, the unit is
also a part of the Oklahoma Task Force One emergency
response team. The OSU tractor/trailer is shown below
at the Tulsa disaster training site with Oklahomas
two USAR tractor/trailers operated by the Oklahoma
City and the Tulsa Fire Departments. (Click

trailers).
All three
State of Oklahoma Hackney disaster response tractor/trailers
are shown staged at the Tulsa Fire Department disaster
training site.
