Long
Beach Fire Department is located on the coast just
south of Los Angeles in Southern California, at 925
Harbor Plaza, Suite 100 Long Beach, CA 90802.
Long Beach, California has added
a Hackney TU1682 Special Operation Trailer to there
fleet. The 40-ft trailer is pulled by a Spartan Gladiator
LFD custom cab tractor. It is powered by a 490 horsepower
Detroit Series 60.
The apparatus serves multiple functions within the
department, some of which include: USAR collapse rescue
with a compliment of 12-ft timbers; 8-ft shoring panels,
air shores and a variety of air lifting bags; air
support vehicle with a 14-cfm breathing air compressor
and SCBA fill enclosure and 300-ft high pressure breathing
air hose reel; scene lighting utilizing a telescoping
light tower and roof mounted perimeter lights.
A fold-down ramp provides simple
loading and unloading of a Stanley hydraulic tool
and accessory cart, negating the need to lift this
heavy piece of equipment. Multiple slide-out tool
boards, slide trays and shelving round out the planned
storage capabilities for fast, simple equipment access.
Located on the roof of the trailer
are four 16-ft storage compartments accessed by a
OSHA approved ladder on the front of the trailer.
17.5-ft awnings are installed on the left and right
side of the trailer providing staging and operations
sheltering.
The flood lights are powered by
a self-contained 20-kw diesel generator supplied by
a 50-gallon fuel tank beneath the fifth wheel. Multiple
cord reels and outlets are strategically placed around
the trailer.
A 375-cfm PTO driven rotary screw
compressor is mounted on the tractor with 2"
air discharge outlets on the left and right side.
The compressor has ample reserve capacity to operate
two jack hammers and an air knife simultaneously,
plus any other auxiliary utility air requirements.
