The City of Lansing has added a 43‐ft Hackney Technical Rescue Trailer to their fleet adding immense
rescue capabilities for the Lansing region off a single response vehicle.
The 21‐compartment trailer (plus four 14.5‐ft roof compartments) is towed by a Spartan Furion tractor
with 360 hp Cummins ISC engine and Allison 6‐speed automatic transmission. Over 2200 cu.ft. of storage
capacity and tight turning radius makes the Hackney low‐profile trailer design the ideal solution for moving
a massive amount of specialized technical rescue to a disaster or any other type of rescue incident with
ease and without the complications of multiple apparatus.
The rear tunnel compartment is one of the unique features of the Hackney technical rescue trailer. The
16.5‐ft tunnels provides for a huge compliment of various size 16‐ft timbers and shoring panels as follows:
Ten (10) shoring panels.
Ten (10) 4x8 sheets of plywood.
Six (6) 8"x8"x16' timbers.
Sixteen (16) 6"x6"x16' timbers.
Sixteen (16) 4"x4"x16' timbers.
Sixteen (16) 2"x4"x16' timbers.
Sixteen (16) 2"x12"x16' timbers.
Sixteen (16) 2"x6"x16" timbers.
A 21" deep fold‐down step platform rated at1000 lbs. and grab rails provide safe retrieval of timbers and panels.
Electric awnings are provided on each side providing a staging area and rehab. The 20kw generator powers a light tower, two removable tripod flood lights, four upper side body flood lights, two cord reels
and multiple power outlets.
The entire trailer is multiplexed and controlled by a LCD color control panel in the cab. The display
provides graphical , flashing light and audible warning of doors opens and scrolling text messages when light tower is deployed or doors are opened, providing clarity as to the alerts. All lights are LED, including ICC marker; tail, stop, turn; upper rear traffic advisor bar; and NFPA warning lights. The LED compartment light strips are recessed into the left and right side compartment walls providing illumination above and below all shelves and trays at a very low amperage draw. A color backup camera increases the safety.
A 20,000 watt Harrison hydraulic generator is mounted
in the streetside saddle compartment on the tractor. A
¾" and 1‐1/2" claw air couplings are installed in a
separate compartment plumbed to a 185 cfm PTO air
compressor.
A 9,000 lb. portable winch is stored in the front bumper
behind a drop‐down access door integral to the
bumper. The winch can be operated from this position
or from receivers mounted on left and right sides of the
trailer fore and aft of the rear wheels.
Note the low‐profile of the side compartments facilitating easy access to equipment. The 4th compartment features
a drop‐down ramp for heavy wheeled equipment, eliminating necessity to lift heavy equipment. Slide‐out racks in
the 6th compartment provides vertical storage of airshores on each side of the 38" deep boards.
