JERSEY CITY FIRE DEPARTMENT
Jersey City, New Jersey
The City of Jersey City has a fast-expanding skyline making it one of the largest cities that line the Hudson River directly across from Manhattan. Transportation is readily available via a 24-hour PATH Train service, the NY/NJ Waterway, the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail system, and major highways such as the NJ Turnpike. To service this demanding area, the Jersey City Fire Department chose a Hackney TC1682 Hazmat trailer.
The 39-ft haz-mat trailer features sixteen (16) exterior compartments and a rear command and logistics center. Located on the roof is a rapid-deploy observation platform, two roof compartments and Nightscan light tower. An awning is provided on the road side providing staging areas and facilitation of rehab operations.
The trailer is towed by a four-door cab Freightliner M112 tractor with 410-hp and seating for five. All NFPA 1901 lighting, scene lighting, compartment lights, ground lights and other 12VDC features are fully integrated between the tractor and trailer using V-MUX multiplexing with quick-disconnect feature, dramatically reducing the amount of wiring between the two pieces and reducing stress related issues with connections. The tractor also provides generator power from a 25kw PTO generator connected to the trailer via a 125-amp umbilical cord connection.
To accommodate the department’s vast array of equipment, cavernous 43” floor-to-ceiling deep
compartments
house a combination of slide-out and fixed trays, shelving and SCBA storage for 27 bottles.
