The
Florida USAR Task Force has an additional three Hackney
USAR trailers to the existing four operating throughout
the state. Chief Ron Rogers with Hillsborough County
Fire-Rescue coordinated this purchase that enhanced
the original design. These three tractor/trailers
are earmarked for: Hillsborough County Fire-Rescue(Tampa);
Bonita Springs Fire-Rescue and Tallahassee Fire Department.
The previous four are operated by: Orlando Fire Department,
Orange County Fire-Rescue; Seminole County Fire-Rescue,
and Jacksonville Fire Department (see map). Although
part of the Florida USAR Task Force, each agency is
allowed to using their own fleet colors.
The 40-ft trailers feature 18-compartments,
plus a rear compartment that houses timbers and shoring
panels. Due to the shoring equipment weight and overall
length, tandem axles were provided for the trailer.
Tandem drive-axles were furnished on the tractors
to enhance off-road capabilities in the sandy Florida
terrain. The tractor selected was an International
7400. Three additional tractors were also purchased
under the grant to replace those currently being used
by three of the other four agencies.
The extensive compartmentation (over
1500 cu.ft.) is arrayed with all slide and slide/tilt
trays. Special compartments are constructed for individual,
inventoried air bags, three two-sided slide-out tool
boards and SCBA bottle storage tubes. Two compartments
are provided with fold-down ramps for injury free
loading and unloading of Stanley hydraulic power units,
welders and torches. Two compartments also are configured
with transverse tunnels for storage of air struts
and associated pads. A large transverse tunnel is
provided behind the rear wheels for inflatable tents.
The timber and shoring panel rear tunnel is divided
for easy retrieval of various size materials. The
roof provides additional storage space with four 16-ft
long compartments accessed by a ladder on the front
of the trailer.
A 12.5kw Onan QuietOne diesel generator
provides stand-alone power for seven roof rail mounted
flood lights (three on each side and one on the rear).
Additionally, four tripod flood lights are mounted
on the front of the trailer.
The tractor and trailer are
multiplexed and features a LCD display control console
in the cab. All DOT lighting and emergency flashing
lights are LED.
