DOTHAN FIRE-RESCUE
Dothan, Alabama
The
Hackney TC1682 Haz-Mat trailer is one of two tractor
and trailers purchased by Dothan Fire-Rescue as part
of the Alabama Regional Response Team, Region 8 serving
southeastern Alabama and the panhandle of Florida.
The second trailer is designed specifically for USAR
and Technical Rescue responses (see
separate profile).
The 41-ft long trailer features
16 side load compartments, 14 with roll-up doors and
two environmentally controlled hinged door compartments
for Level A suits. The air suspension tandem axle
trailer provides a whopping 1262 cu.ft. of storage,
excluding the roof top compartments and command center.
The trailer is towed by a Freightliner
M2-112 four-door cab tractor with a 410 horsepower
Caterpillar C13 engine and 4000EVS automatic transmission.
Two saddle tank provide a total 120 gallon fuel capacity
for long responses and on scene duration's. Five air
suspension seats and an air suspension cab provide
comfort for long responses for the team members.
A command and logistics center is
provided on the back of the trailer with aluminum
cabinets and stainless steel work counter and desk
with filing cabinet. The area is heated and cooled
from both the generator and shorepower.. A WeatherPak
400 system is integrated into the computer system.
A Scott 26.5 cfm breathing air compressor
with RevolveAir fill station and four 6000 psi ASME
storage vessels provide high performance SCBA fill
capability. Eight complete SCBA's are transported
on a slide-out "back-up and go" donning
configuration tray. Twelve spare SCBA bottles are
stored above the fill station.
The 20-hp compressor, multi-directional
light tower, environmental system, 120V compartment
lights, command center lighting, tripod portable flood
lights, cord reels and multiple outlets are powered
by a 40kw Onan PTO generator with quick disconnect
umbilical connections between the tractor and trailer.
The trailer design provides low
ground height at the compartment floors (21").
All tall compartments are 43" deep from floor
to ceiling. Awnings with curtains are provided on
both sides of the trailer to augment rehab and command
operations.
The tractor and trailer are
100% multiplexed featuring a large LCD screen for
operations, textual warning, diagnostics and graphics
displays. The screen also serves as a monitor for
the back-up camera and GPS.
