The Costa Mesa Fire Department ramped up their technical
rescue response with the purchase of a Hackney TR1482
multi-tasking emergency response trailer. They worked
jointly with Hackney and Kirk Givler of American LaFrance
of LA to custom design this 14-compartment trailer
that boosts a whooping 1100 cu.ft. of storage capacity,
plus roof storage for a complete compliment of ground
ladders, on an easy to maneuver apparatus. The trailer
features air-ride suspension and polished aluminum
alloy wheels.
American LaFrance of LA provided
an ALF Eagle tractor with a 450 hp Detroit Series
60 engine and Allison HD4060 automatic transmission.
The tractor features a raised roof, seating for six
firefighters and polished aluminum alloy wheels.
A 40,000 watt Onan PTO generator
provides ample power to the trailer through a 150
amp quick-disconnect umbilical connection from the
tractor. The generator will power a 20-hp Ingersoll-Rand
26.5 cfm air compressor, four (4) upper roof rail
mounted 1000 watt Focus flood lights, four (4) 1000
watt Focus tri-pod flood lights, two Hannay 240vac
cord reels and multiple outlets around the trailer.
All taillights and DOT lights are LED. The electrical
system is multiplexed, which greatly reduces the amount
of wiring between the tractor and trailer interface.
All NFPA 1901 complaint emergency lighting is Whelen.
Communications is provided via a David-Clark intercom
system throughout the cab, at the air fill station
and on the left and right rear of the trailer.
Storage provisions in the compartments
includes four (4) 78" high x 40" deep two-sided
slide-out tool boards, fifteen (15) spare SCBA bottle
storage tubes, transverse tunnels for shoring panels,
shoring timbers, stokes baskets, and cribbing. Multiple
slide-out and slide-tilt trays and adjustable shelving
is installed throughout the trailer. A 14 foot awning
is installed on the right side of the trailer to provide
shelter during extended operations.
