The Concord Fire Department has added a Hackney TC1482
Tractor and Trailers to their modern fleet of fire
apparatus, dramatically enhancing their response capability
for both technical rescue and haz-mat operations.
NASCAR fans will recognize that Concord is home to
Lowes Motor Speedway (formerly Charlotte Motor Speedway).
Fire protection for this gigantic, world-reknown sports
complex is provided by the Concord Fire Department.
The apparatus was sold by Emergency Apparatus of NC.
The tractor is a Freightliner FL80 powered by a Cummins
ISC engine rated at 330 hp. The chassis features an
Allison MD3060 automatic transmission, exhaust brake
retarder, aluminum wheels, 4-door cab with raised
roof and seating for five.
The trailer is a Hackney TC1482
with 14-compartments and a rear command and technical
operations center. The rear tech center is environmentally
controlled with air conditioning and heaters operating
from the tractor powered 25kw PTO generator, interconnected
to the trailer via umbilical quick-disconnect cables.
The cabinetry within the tech center is all-aluminum
with a "horse-shoe" shaped wrap-around stainless
steel desk/work counter. The trailer axle features
air-ride suspension and polished aluminum alloy wheels.
The roof of the trailer also serves
as an observation platform with quick deploy perimeter
guards meeting OSHA standards. The platform provides
a safe zone for a minimum of eight firefighters (7W
x 14L). Awning are installed on both the left
and right sides of the trailer further enhancing long-term
field operations. Full enclosure curtains are supplied
for winter operations.
In the voluminous compartments (over
950 cu.ft., excluding the rear operations center)
are multiple adjustable shelves and trays, plus slide-out
racks for "back-up and go" donning of eight
(8) complete SCBAs. Eight (8) spare SCBA bottle
storage tubes are provided in an adjacent compartment.
The multiplexed electrical system
provides reduced umbilical connection cables between
the tractor and trailer. All clearance and upper auxiliary
stop lights are LED. The emergency warning system
is a combination of Whelen LED and strobe lights.
The siren is a Whelen Xecutor.
A 30 amp shorepower connections
permits remote power connection to the trailer enabling
operation of the air conditioner or heaters, fluorescent
exterior compartment and command center lighting and
command center power outlets. These circuits are controlled
by a transfer switch from the generator to the shorepower.
Primary mobile power is provided
by an ONAN 35,000 watt PTO generator with umbilical
connections from the tractor to the trailer. A 9000
watt NightScan light tower provides on-scene lighting
and features multi-directional lamps that permit 4500
watts of lighting to be focused in two opposite directions
simultaneously. Two (2) 1000 watt tri-pod flood lights
are installed on the left rear of the trailer. Two
(2) cord reels and multiple outlets are strategically
located around the trailer for remote power sources.
A Weather Station with telescoping weather detector
provides up-to-the minute weather conditions on-site.
