With the recent delivery of
two new Hackney DF0773 modified rescues, the Tucson
Fire Department now operates a total of seven (7)
Hackney resuces (six (6) are classified by the department
a Ladder Tenders and one as a Heavy Rescue). The Heavy
Rescue was originally purchased in 1989. In the spring
of 2000 it was completely refurbished and remounted
on a new International 4900 cab/chassis. During the
refurb process, the complete apparatus was updated
to full NFPA1901 compliance. Four (4) of the Ladder
Tenders are mounted on International 4-door cab/chassis.
The last two (2) purchases were on Freightliner FL70
4-door cab/chassis. The interior of the rear compartment
accesses storage tunnels for a full ground ladder
compliment including: a 24 ft. 2-section ladder, a
14 ft. roof ladder, and a attic ladder, plus multiple
length pike poles. Although designated as Ladder Tenders,
they also function as rescue and support vehicles.
