The Orlando Fire Department
placed the first of two Hackneys they purchased
this year in service at the Downtown Station 1. This
unit will service as a support unit for the Hazardous
Materials and Special Ops team. It is mounted on a
Kenworth T300 cab/chassis with Caterpillar 3126, 330
hp engine, alloy wheels, and vertical exhaust. It
is one of the first apparatus added to the fleet with
the new black over red paint scheme that the department
is switching to starting in 2002.
The Hackney DF0973R, 9-compartment medium duty rescue
body features over 600 cu.ft. of accessible storage
capacity, plus a 16 foot long compartment on the recessed
roof. Over 16,000 lbs. of payload was provided.
A 25,000 watt Onan PTO generator
is mounted in the left front compartment providing
power to upper side body 900 watt MagnaFire flood
lights, rear mounted MagnaFire tri-pod flood lights,
two 240VAC cord reels with 200 ft. 10/4 cord with
power distribution boxes that split the 240VAC power
into two separate 120VAC circuits for full amperage
output at 200 ft.
Emergency warning lights include
new technology LED upper and lower zone warning lights.,
3-M OptiCom, Whelen WS295 siren and air horns. Two
halogen 12V scene lights are mounted on the upper
left and right side body and upper rear body. The
rear scene lights are activated in the reverse mode.
LED tail lights, upper auxiliary stop lights and clearance
lights support a dramatically reduced amperage load
and basically maintenance-free operation.
