NORTHWEST
HARNETT FIRE DEPARTMENT Fuquay-Varina, NC
Northwest Harnett FD serves a farm community that
is rapidly transforming itself into a suburban setting.
The rolling, heavily wooded area is filling up with
families on exclusive acreage homes.
To cope with the growing service demands of the area,
Northwest FD decided to add a rescue to their modern
fleet that already includes pumpers, tankers and service
trucks. The rescue of choice was a Hackney DF0773
mounted on a four-door Freightliner cab/chassis. The
chassis feature a 330 hp Caterpillar diesel, Allison
MD3060 automatic transmission, polished aluminum alloy
wheels and front and rear cab air conditioning for
rehab capabilities.
10,000 lb. receivers are located
under the front and rear bumper and left and right
sides of the body for 360 degree use of a 9000 lb.
portable Ramsey winch. The receivers can also be used
for attachment of a chromed tow-eye for securing rescue
rope.
A 25,000 watt Onan PTO generator
provides power for a 9000 watt NightScan with multi-directional
capability (provides 4500 watts of lights in two opposite
directions or all in one direction). Two cord reels,
multiple outlets and fluorescent compartment lighting
operate from the generator.
The rear compartment is set up for
extrication tools with slide trays for hydraulic rescue
tools and power unit. Two electric rewind hydraulic
hose reels are installed in the top of the compartment.
A slide-out SCBA rack with four
complete SCBAs provide "back-up and go"
donning capability and supplements the four SCBAs
located in the cab seats. Compartmentation is provided
for a 12-foot folding ladder, stokes basket and two
long backboards in the top of the wheelhouse compartment.
Six pike poles are stored beneath the compartment.
Along with multiple slide-out trays and adjustable
shelves, the 500+ cubic feet of storage space provides
a fully functional rescue and service truck in a 210"
wheelbase, perfect for getting into and out of those
tight rural response areas.
