WASHINGTON COUNCIL OF GOVERNMENTS - Administered By
MONTGOMERY COUNTY FIRE & RESCUE SERVICES
Rockville, Maryland
Five jurisdictions in and around the Washington, DC metroplex received Hackney Mass Casualty Response Units (MCSU). With the exception of paint and graphics, each vehicle is identical, meeting interoperability criteria for interagency responses. The 18.75-ft bodies were chosen due to the full 40” deep floor-to-ceiling compartments that maximizes storage for containers that facilitates rapid deployment. Each unit is equipped to handle up to 100 adult and pediatric patients, 50 off each side. Backboards are designed to be stored vertically in bundles of five. A slide-out rack is provided for storage and deployment of “M” size medical oxygen tanks with multilators. Hand-carts are carried on the rear for moving oxygen tanks and other supplies to triage sites.
Full body length awnings are provided on each side of the apparatus to assist in triage operations. Portable generators, stored in an isolated vented compartment, provide power for four tripod flood lights mounted on the front and rear of the body. The chassis and body are fully multiplexed and include textual message display for warnings, service screen featuring chassis, engine, transmission and body serial numbers, fluid levels, filter recommendations and much more. Sold by American Fire Equipment, Woodbridge, VA.
Jurisdictions receiving MCSU’s are: Arlington County Fire-Rescue; District of Columbia Fire Department; Fairfax County Fire-Rescue; Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services; and Prince George County Fire-Rescue.
Montgomery County utilizes distinctive Chevron striping for high visibility.
Three halogen 12VDC scene lights are provided on each side and two on the rear for instant perimeter lighting. All emergency lighting is Whelen LED with TrafficMaster LED traffic director light bar on the rear. Also note the low profile body design facilitating easy access to all equipment from ground level.
