The Hanscom Air Force Base
in Massachusetts took delivery of a Hackney DF0773
Rescue mounted on an International 4800 with four-wheel
drive and 300 hp engine. Seating is for five firefighters
with four (4) 911 SCBA seats. This is one of a series
of ongoing deliveries for this type of rescue apparatus
for US Air Force bases nationwide (see delivery archives).
This rescue included a 12,000 lb. Ramsey winch on
the extended front bumper. The bumper was replaced
with a fire service type stainless steel bumper to
eliminate rusting and featured recessed dual speakers
and dual Grover Stuttertones. An Onan ProTec 25,000
watt PTO generator provides electrical power to the
NightScan light tower, cord reel and numerous outlets.
The rear 73" high extrication compartment features
a 600 lb. Slide-out tray and adjustable slide/tilt
tray for hydraulic rescue tools and accessories. Above
the trays are two electric rewind Hannay reels, one
with 100 ft. of hydraulic hose and one with 100 ft.
of utility air hose. The air hose is plumbed to the
chassis air compressor. The roof is equipped with
a compartment for storage of a 24ft. two-section and
14 ft. roof ladder. Access to the roof is provided
by an OSHA compliant ladder on the right rear body.
Although the wheelbase is less than 205" long,
the unique Hackney drop/pinch frame provides for a
body with almost 500 cu.ft. of storage capacity. The
body is loaded with adjustable shelves, slide-out
trays and spare SCBA bottle storage tubes. Lighting
is an all-Whelen strobe system meeting NFPA 1901 requirements.
