Coweta
County Fire Rescue has placed their second Hackney
into service to serve the needs of the growing county
just south of Atlanta on I-85. Due to the rural aspects
of much of their response area and the tight secluded
sub-divisions, they required a vehicle with a lot
of storage capacity and a short turning radius. The
vehicle of choice was a Hackney DF0773R Medium Duty
Rescue mounted on an International 4400 cab/chassis
with 330 hp engine.
Although the body is only 15-ft
long, it provides an incredible 662 cu.ft. of storage
capacity, excluding the roof compartments on the recessed
roof and with a wheelbase of only 168". The short
wheelbase permits turning the vehicle around on any
narrow roadway and has a much shorter turning radius
than the much smaller light duty rescue mounted on
a Ford F550.
The
multi-tasked vehicle provides scene lighting from
a NightScan light tower mounted on the forward section
of the recessed roof with six MagnaFire flood lights;
one MagnaFire on each side of the upper body; and
two removable tri-pod MagnaFire lights on the left
rear body. They are powered by a 25-KW Onan PTO generator.
A two-bottle SCBA fill enclosure is installed in the
right rear compartment plumbed to six 6000 psi DOT
air storage cylinders mounted in the aft section of
the wheelhouse compartments. Twelve spare SCBA cylinders
are transported in tubes located in the aft wheelhouse
compartment adjacent to the fill station; plus four
more stored in the left and right wheelhouse skirt
panels. Four complete SCBA's are stored on a slide
out 73" high x 36" deep tool board for "backup
and go" donning.
An isolated and vented rope compartment
is located in the right forward section of the wheelhouse
compartment. The back extrication compartment is dedicated
to all hydraulic rescue tools and equipment and features
a 600 lb floor tray and two adjustable slide/tilt
trays. In the upper section are two electric rewind
hydraulic hose reels and a cord reel. A 15,000 lb.
Warn winch is installed in the extended front bumper.
The 100% multiplexed VMUX electrical
system controls a Whelen LED lighting package. Other
warning devices include a Federal PA300 siren and
Federal E-Q2B siren and dual air horns. A color backup
camera is integrated into the VISTA color display
control panel.
