Coastline
Rescue Squad, located between Myrtle Beach and Wilmington,
North Carolina, put a Hackney DF0773R rescue into
service in September. The body is mounted on an International
4400 with 330 hp engine. It features a 15-foot 7-compartment
body with recessed roof, providing a huge amount of
storage in a short 166" wheelbase. The recessed
roof includes a roof storage compartment and accommodates
a Will-Burt Nightscan light tower with two 110,000
lumens metal-halide lamps and two 32,000 lumen quartz
MagnaFire heads. The light tower features multi-directional
operation, providing lighting in simultaneous opposing
directions. Additional flood lighting is provided
by MagnaFire lights on the upper left and right side
body and two removable tripod MagnFire flood lights
on the rear. All are powered by a 25kw Onan PTO generator
mounted inside the left front compartment protected
from the salty road conditions of this coastal community.
Also included is a 200-ft cord reel and multiple outlets.
A 12,000# winch in mounted in the
extended front bumper. A Federal Q2B is mounted on
the left side of the bumper and a storage compartment
in the right side. TNT hydraulic rescues tools are
mounted in the rear extrication compartment that is
the largest in the industry measuring 73" high
x 42" wide x 40" deep top-to-bottom. Located
in the top of this compartment is a ladder tunnel
for a 24-ft two-section, 14-ft roof ladder and four
pike poles. Below the ladder tunnel are two hydraulic
hose reels. Two slide-out trays accommodate the hydraulic
rescue tools and power unit. Utility air is supplied
from the chassis air compressor to a 150-ft hose reel.
Other features include a transverse
storage tunnel across the top of the wheelhouse compartment
for stokes basket and backboards. A slide-out rack
in the right front compartment provides storage for
four complete SCBAs on one side and tools on
the opposite side. The combination SCBA rack and tool
board measures 68" high x 36" deep floor
to ceiling due to the Hackney drop/pinch frame design
that provides 40" compartment depth. The balance
of the space is provided with multiple adjustable
shelves and trays.
The multiplexed electrical system
features a full color LCD control screen on the console
that incorporates a message and graphics display for
door, roof compartment lids not closed and light tower
not stowed. All DOT and warning lights are LED or
strobe.
