A wheelbase of only 154" provides a very short turning radius, allowing the vital service vehicle to get into and out of very tight locations.
Salisbury has added another special purpose Hackney to their fleet, this one for supplying high volume breathing air support and on-scene lighting.
The 12.75-ft body is mounted on a Freightliner M2 cab/chassis with Cummins ISC-330 engine; Allison 3000EVS transmission; 12,000# front axle and 23,000# rear axle. Vertical exhaust prevent collection of noxious gases from accumulating beneath the awnings when they are deployed. Hackney’s exclusive drop/pinch frame was specified to permit mounting of the generator inside the left front compartment for protection against road spray.
The primary mission of the vehicle is to provide on-scene recharging of 4500 psi SCBA’s. That is accomplished using a Scott 26 cfm air compressor coupled with a RevolveAir fill station. The system permits a single operator to fill not less than 20 SCBA’s an hour, based on an average 500 psi residual. The rear compartment carries forty (40) spare SCBA bottles, making it highly unlikely that the department will ever deplete air supplies to firefighters.
Following is a list of just some of the features:
All roll-up doors (7)
Whelen NFPA 1901 all-LED Warning Light Package
PowerCall electronic siren
40kw, 3-phase Onan PTO generator mounted inside the left front compartment (not beneath the body)

Ground lights beneath cab and body
LED traffic advisor light bar
Recessed LED compartment light strips
Interlock system that prevents the vehicle from being moved when light tower is deployed

Four (4) 6000 psi ASME storage vessels are provided for reserve breathing air. The automatic fill system continually senses stored air pressures and constantly tops off each vessel as required. Note that the air purification filters are conveniently located for fast and simple replacement. The computerized monitoring system alerts the technician when filters require replacement. The 40KW generator is located inside the front compartment with breakers and controls facing the operator.
