The Edgewood Fire District
serves the area surrounding the Louisville International
Airport, the UPS hub for worldwide overnight package
delivery. Edgewood needed an all purpose emergency
support vehicle that could handle everything from
conventional rescue operations to disaster command
incidents. Hackney was chosen as the vehicle of choice
to serve those needs. Edgewood chose the CR0882, an
eight bay body with a rear command center mounted
on an International 4900 with 300hp engine and MD3060
6-speed automatic transmission. One of the focal points
of this truck is the Avenger 36 high performance breathing
air system featuring the American Bristol RevolveAir
2x2 fill station, 300ft. 6000 psi air hose reel and
Ingersoll-Rand 26.5 cfm cast-iron compressor. The
20hp compressor, flood lights, air conditioner and
cord reels are all powered by an ONAN 40kw 3-phase
PTO generator mounted in a weather-proof enclosure
in the lower left front compartment. For extended
incidents, a full length awning is provided on the
right side of the apparatus. A 12,000lb. Ramsey winch
is mounted in the extended front bumper. Although
the body features 600 cu.ft. of cavernous storage
capacity and 82" high compartments, it was still
able to be parked in a bay with a 10ft. height restriction.
