The Putnam County Rescue Squad has begun to upgrade its fleet of rescue and support vehicles, with the first phase acceptance of a Hackney HLR rescue. Cookeville sits along Interstate 40 serving a growing density of population and traffic.
The 7-compartment rescue body is mounted on a Chevrolet C5500, four-door cab with four-wheel drive. It's 21,5000 lb. GVWR provides over 6000 lbs. of payload capacity. A direct-drive 12kw PTO generator provides power for a Shadow light tower, Simo hydraulic power unit, two removable tripod flood lights, cord reel and multiple power outlets in side and on the exterior of the body.
The extended front bumper features a 12,000 lb. Warn winch. Two electric rewind pre-connected hydraulic reels are installed in the rear extrication compartment.
All warning lights, clearance lights, tail lights, compartment lights and traffic advisor light bar are LED. The LED compartment lights are recessed into the side walls providing ample lighting above and below shelves and trays. A Federal eQ2B siren and a conventional PA300 siren, plus Stuttertone air horns assist in clearing the right-of-way along the busy streets and interstate highway system.
CURBSIDE: Note special storage slots for air bags and controls in upper front compartment. A 64" deep slide-out tool board provides plenty of storage for SCBA and hand tools.
STREETSIDE: Transverse tunnels in the upper wheelhouse house a stokes basket and two long back boards. Cribbing is stored behind hinged doors in the left rear.
REAR: Slide-tilt trays provide storage for extrication tools. Note the slide-out hydraulic hose roller guides facilitating deployment of hoses out either side of the body.
Because of foggy conditions along I-40, extra LED warning lights were added to the rear; traffic director light bar; four upper warning lights and two lower warning lights, all LED. The removable tripod flood lights can be used while on the vehicle or remotely when connected to the cord reel.
