Jack Krill and the Matanuska-Susitna (Matsu for short)
Borough Fire Department, Alaska took delivery of their
fifth and sixth Hackney rescue trucks in the fall
of 2000. The previous four trucks were medium duty
rescues using International 4900 cab/chassis. These
two are Hackneys SD0764-60 light duty, rapid
intervention rescues mounted on Ford F550 four-door
cab/chassis with four-wheel drive, T444 diesel engine
and automatic transmission.
Matsu has found the Hackney rescues
are able to handle the extreme weather conditions
of the Wasilla Valley north of Anchorage. Regardless
of the amount of snow and ice, the Hackney doors work
flawlessly.
These two trucks feature 6500
watt generators that power a 3000 watt light tower,
cord reel and numerous outlets around the truck. One
of the two features a 4500 psi cascade system with
two-bottle fill enclosure. The extended front bumpers
are equipped with 12,000 lb. Ramsey winches. Compartmentation
is configured to carry medical and extrication rescue
equipment.
