JEFFERSON FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT
Mt. Vernon, Illinois
The Jefferson FPD upgraded their first response rescue with a Hackney LR0764 mounted on a Ford F550 with two-door, extended cab , four-wheel drive chassis. The selected Hackney due to their ability to maximize storage capacity within the restricted overall length and turning radius required. Although the body is only 10-ft long, it provides 246 cu.ft. of pass-thru, useable storage space due to the integral door tracks, recessed Unistrut for shelves and recessed LED strip lighting. All other manufacturers use doors that require the door track to be attached to the door opening, virtually destroying 7” of compartment width in each compartment.
The entire rescue was multiplexed using Whelen V-MUX with a color, LCD control panel in the cab. The display provides audible, visual and textual alerts to doors open and maintenance issues. Amperage demand has been dramatically reduced with the use of 100% LED lighting. Lighting includes tail lights, clearance lights, emergency warning lights and light bar, traffic advisor light bar, upper auxiliary brake lights and vertical side wall mounted compartment lights. This leaves plenty of reserve from the dual alternators to power two 12vdc telescoping floor lights mounted on the front of the body.
Two electric rewind hydraulic hose reels are mounted in the rear compartment for pre-connection to the rescue tools.
