The
Fort Barnwell Rescue Squad chose a Hackney SD0764-84
Light Rescue to serve the Dover, North Carolina area.
The rescue is mounted on a Ford F550 cab/chassis with
four wheel drive. The truck was custom designed to
meet the unique rescue requirements of this rural
eastern North Carolina community. Rescue operations
are supplied by an 8,000 lb. winch mounted on the
front bumper. A special rear compartment is designed
for all hydraulic rescue tools, including two pre-connected
hydraulic hose reels. The transverse wheelhouse compartment
is configured with tunnel storage for three long backboards
and three stokes baskets that can be retrieved from
either side of the body. A rack on the rear wall provides
space for three stacked 4500 psi DOT air cylinders
to supply air to two air hose reels for operating
chisels, air bags, etc. A slide-out rack is installed
in the right front compartment for mounting four complete
SCBA's on quick-release brackets. A Will-Burt Chief
light tower is mounted on the forward section of the
body roof. The balance of the 363 cu.ft. of storage
space is sectionalized and furnished with slide-out
trays and adjustable shelves for medical gear and
other rescue tools and equipment.
