The City of Yonkers Fire Department has added another Hackney Technical Rescue to their fleet. This one is a 24.5-ft body mounted on a Mack MRU613 cab/chassis with tandem axles. The engine is a 325 hp Mack MP7 with an Allison 4500EVS 6-speed automatic transmission.
The all-aluminum Hackney body features five compartments on each side and a 10.5-ft deep timber tunnel in the rear. All doors are roll-up, except the rear timber tunnel which is double, hinged to retain the timbers and finform panels. Each compartment was designed by the Collapse Rescue Team specifically for each piece of equipment. No wasted space on this monster!
A full compliment of airshores are stored on slide-out racks and trays. All tall side compartments feature Hackney exclusive drop-down step platforms to provide full, safe access to all equipment stored in the upper reaches of the compartments.
The recessed roof provides additional storage space with an 18-ft coffin compartment on the street side and 16-ft on the curb side. Access to the roof is via an OSHA compliant fixed ladder off-set to the curb side.
Full body length awnings are installed on both the street and curb sides providing a staging area in inclement weather.
Electrical power is provided by an Onan 25kw hydraulic generator mounted on the forward end of the recessed roof to prevent damage from corrosive road spray. It powers a NightScan light tower; (4) upper side body MagnaFire flood lights; (2) MagnaFire cab brow-mounted flood lights; (2) 240VAC cord reels with split 120VAC power distribution boxes on the end of the cord; 50-amp power outlet and multiple power receptacles inside and outside the body.
A PTO-driven 185 cfm air compressor provides high volume air supply to (2) NST couplers for air hammers and jacks, plus (2) utility air hose reels for inflating air bags and operating air chisels. The two utility air reels are equipped with 150-ft of 3/8” hose. One (1) reel is equipped with 100-ft of 1” diameter hose.
The apparatus is fully multiplexed and provides a color LCD control panel for component activation, plus a visual and textual alert system for door ajar (depicts which door is open) and tower deployed. The multiplexed system controls an all-LED warning light package featuring Whelen upper and lower zone lights and light bar.
Each compartment is provided with vertical side wall mounted LED strip lights recessed into the wall to prevent equipment damage, yet providing full height lighting above and below each shelf and tray. The same type of lighting is provided in each of the roof compartment lids. An LED Traffic Advisor light bar on the rear, LED tail lights, LED clearance lights all provide dependable service with very low amperage draw.
