The Sunman Rural Fire Department serves as area along Interstate 74 approximately 30 miles west of the Greater Cincinnati Metropolitan region. The department selected a Hackney 11-compartment heavy rescue to serve their diverse response requirements.
The rescue is mounted on a Spartan MetroStar MFD with 10" raised roof, seating for six Firefighter and aluminum alloy wheels.
The 19.5-ft body features 11-compartments, with the four compartments forward of the rear wheels boosting 40" of depth from floor to ceiling. Plus there are two coffin compartments on the integral recessed roof, as well as a nesting area for the light tower.
10,000 lb. receivers are located on the left and right sides of the body and under the front and rear bumper with 12vdc receptacles next to each receiver for powering the 9000 lb Warn portable winch. As depicted on the downloadable drawings there is a dedicated spot for every piece of equipment. The design committee insured that everything was readily accessible without digging and moving other equipment for access. Congratulations on a well planned apparatus.
A full body length electrically controlled awning is located on the street side providing a space for operation of the fill station and rehab.
The V-MUX multiplexed electrical system provides two separate Vista control panels in the cab; one for the driver and one for the officer. All emergency, compartment, marker and tail lights are LED, virtually eliminating bulb replacement and dramatically decreasing the amperage draw. A LED traffic advisor light bar is integrated into the Vista control display, as well as a back up camera.
The 25kw Onan PTO generator provides power for a NightScan light tower with six multi-directional lamps; four upper side body mounted flood lights and two tripod flood lights. Two 240VAC cord reels provide remote power with duplex 120VAC power distribution boxes on the end of the 200-ft cables.
The full height rear compartments provides single point access to all hydraulic rescue tools. The two cord reels in the top provide 200-ft of remote power from each reel and can be deployed to either side of the apparatus through the slide-out roller guides.
A 25kw PTO generator is enclosed in the front compartment protecting it from corrosive road spray. A two-bottle fill station and four 6000 psi air cylinders provide on-scene breathing air refills. A slide-out rack in the second compartment provides “back-up and go” donning of up to eight SCBA’s.
