Loveland, located approximately
50 miles North of Denver, is a rapidly growing city
of over 60,000 residents with a wonderful seasonal
climate enhanced by an elevation of 5000 feet. They
are also responsible for responding to incidents along
busy US Highway 34 and Interstate 25.
The city has selected a Hackney
DF1178RU body that features a drop/pinch frame and
recessed roof. The chassis is an International 4400
extended cab with roll-up door transverse compartment
behind the driver and officer. The drop/pinch frame
was required to enhance the overall storage capacity
of the body, important considering the amount of equipment
required to be transported without further extending
the wheelbase.
Located in the left front compartment
is a 25kw Onan PTO generator. Being located inside
the body was important to the department due to the
frequent salt treatments of the streets and highways.
The rear tunnels were critical to
the mission of the apparatus and are designed to carry
12-foot shoring timbers, 4 x 8 sheets
of plywood, rescue tripod assembly, stokes basket
and ladders.
The roof provides additional storage
with compartments around the complete perimeter. Upper
side body and rear mounted tripod flood lights give
plenty of on-scene illumination.
