Custom Cab Heavy Rescue with Auto Deploy Staircase
LELAND FIRE/RESCUE DEPARTMENT
Leland, North Carolina
Leland is a rapidly growing community located across the Cape Fear River just south of the port city of Wilmington along US 17 and US 74. Thousands of newly constructed upscale homes, many situated within golf resort communities and industrial sites along the river, have created the necessity of adding a heavy rescue to the department’s growing fleet and newly constructed sub-stations.
Leland chose a Hackney DFC1373ADS to accommodate the vast array of equipment ranging from conventional EMS and auto extrication calls to technical rescue, breathing air support and service. The 22.5-ft long body is mounted on a Spartan MFD custom chassis with 10” raised roof and seating for six. Located in the cab, behind the driver and officer, is a command desk and storage cabinets. The body features 13-ground level compartments and five 24” deep roof top compartments. A NightScan light tower mounted in the forward section of the recessed roof. The extended front bumper accommodates a hydraulic hose reel with pre-connected Combi-Tool, portable winch receiver, air horns, electronic siren speakers and Screaming Eagle siren.
A 40,000 watt, 3-phase generator powers a 24 cfm air compressor, upper side body flood lights, rear tripod flood lights, front cab brow light, 120V compartment lights, two cord reels and numerous power outlets. All lighting, including emergency warning flashing lights and light bar, compartment strip lights, tail lights, traffic advisor light bar and clearance lights are LED.
The apparatus was sold by C.W. Williams and Company.
A Scott RevolveAir fill station is located in the rear compartment. The #3 compartment features two 36” deep, two-sided slide-out tool boards and a combination tool board and SCBA rack with “back-up and go” donning arrangement. Twelve spare SCBA bottles are stored in tubes. 40” depth at floor level permits two PPV’s to be stored on 38” deep slide-out trays for safe retrieval.
The 40kw PTO generator is mounted in the left front compartment, protected from coastal salt spray. A refrigerator is installed above the generator. Note air bags storage slots in #3 compartment mounted at floor level. The 26 cfm air compressor is installed over the rear wheels.
