LAKE CARMEL FIRE DEPARTMENT
Carmel, New York

Lake Carmel is a beautiful village in the rolling hills of Putnam County, New York nestled against the State of Connecticut just off Interstate 84. The village of just over 10,000 residents surrounds Lake Carmel and is primarily a residential community.

The department purchased a Hackney DFC1164R heavy rescue custom designed as an all-purpose, multi-task response unit. The 11-compartment, 19.5-ft long body is mounted on a Spartan MetroStar MFD custom chassis with Cummins ISL370 engine.

For auto accident responses, the rescue was equipped with a 300 gpm diesel fire pump and 300 gallon poly water tank in the wheelhouse compartment. Two (2) transverse slide-out hose trays with 1-3/4" discharges are provided for quick attack and ease of hose reloading. A third 1-3/4" discharge is provided on the curb side wheelskirt panel. A PacTrac tool board is installed in front of the water tank on the street and curb side for mounting of tools and nozzles.

The rear compartment is dedicated to auto extrication tools and includes two (2) Amkus hydraulic hose reels and slide-out trays with pre-connected tools from a 240VAC Amkus simo hydraulic pump.

A 25kw PTO generator provides power for operation of the NightScan light tower mounted in the recessed roof; two (2) 900-watt flood lights on upper left and right sides of body; one (1) 900-watt brow flood light on the front of the cab; portable tripod flood lights; two (2) Hannay 240VAC cord reels with 200-ft 10/4 cable and power distribution boxes split into two separate 120VAC circuits in each box with a total of four outlets per box; refrigerator/freezer; multiple interior and exterior power outlets through an automatic transfer relay providing power from both the generator and shorepower input.

Warning devices include a Whelen LED NFPA 1901 lighting package; Federal PA4000 electronic siren; Federal Q2B siren and two Stuttertone air horns.

The front bumper is modified to provide storage for a 9000-lb Warn winch behind the hinged bumper center section. The winch can be operated from the front bumper receiver inside the bumper or from left and right side and rear receivers, all rated at 10,000-lbs.

Access to the upper storage areas of the body is provided with Hackney's exclusive fold-down step platforms and rear wheel step bars.
