The Hope-Jackson Fire Company was
pleased to take delivery of a Hackney DF0982 Heavy
Rescue. The rescue was delivered by New England Fire
Apparatus and Equipment in Stratford, CT.
The department will utilize their
new Hackney as a support vehicle for the fire department,
as well as mutual aid with the city of Providence
and other surrounding departments. Support features
include a large capacity breathing air cascade system
using the unique RevolveAir fill enclosure (see Air
Section for details). The other primary support feature
is a heavy array of flood lighting capability. Powered
by an ONAN 35,000 watt PTO generator, the flood lighting
includes two (2) 25 ft. light towers between the cab
and body; one with six 1500 watt flood lights, and
one with two wide area metal halide flood lights.
Located on the left and right upper side body are
two each 1000 watt Focus flood lights (total of 4).
The rear of the body has two (2) 1000 watt Focus removable
tri-pod flood lights. Portable flood lights are stored
within the body. Remote power is supplied by four
(4) 240VAC cord reels with power distribution boxes
on the end split into two separate 120VAC circuits
with two twist-lock outlets on the circuit. This provides
full amperage output at the 200 ft. cord run. A total
useable storage capacity of 670 cu. ft. provides more
than adequate space for required equipment, all mounted
in adjustable shelves, slide and tilt trays and special
compartments. The right rear compartment is 60"
deep with full depth slide trays for all hydraulic
extrication equipment. The top of this compartment
has two color-coded hydraulic hose reels pre-connected
to the tools. With storage for 20 spare SCBA bottles
on the roadside, this unit can respond to any type
emergency. All cord and hose reels feature Hackney
exclusive slide-out roller guide assemblies that allows
the hoses and cords to be routed down the side of
the body without damaging the door opening or fraying
the cords and hoses. The remainder of the wheelhouse
compartment contains transverse storage for a stokes
basket, step ladder, combo ladder, three backboards,
and more. Specially sized vertical air bag storage
slots permit easy storage and retrieval of rescue
air bags, utilizing the 40" deep, full height
compartments. This is not possible without the drop/pinch
frame. Two aluminum pegboard toolboards give this
rescue the capability to carry any equipment that
may be necessary in a rescue situation.
The body is mounted on a Spartan
Metro-Star custom cab/chassis with a 350 hp Cummins
engine with an Allison MD3066 6-speed electronic transmission.
