HARVEY VOLUNTEER FIRE COMPANY
Harvey, Louisiana
Harvey VFC has purchased their second Hackney to serve this community located across the Mississippi from downtown New Orleans. This heavy rescue is mounted on a Spartan Gladiator Extended Long Four Door (ELFD) with 20” raised cab roof. The body is a 23.5-ft Hackney DFC1373R with 13-compartments at ground level plus coffin storage compartments on the recessed roof. It packs a walloping 824 cu.ft. of storage at ground level alone, not including the two huge roof storage compartments. These calculations are factored on useable space (pass-thru dimensions between the door tracks and top of door opening; not interior voids). Another compartment with roll-up door is located on the street side of the cab for medical equipment.
The cab has seating for seven. Seats are Bostrom with SecureAll SCBA brackets. It is powered by a 500-hp Cummins ISM. To maximize compartment space a single 27,000# rear axle was provided in lieu of a tandem with 21,500# front axle. Even with a 270” WB, the apparatus still provides excellent turning capability and maneuvers well in the tight streets around the metro area.
To keep the overall width to a minimum, the electrically extended and retracted awnings on the left and right sides are recessed back into the upper side panels (see photo above and on right). The electrical system on the cab and body is V-MUX multiplexed with remote diagnostics capability.
