Located on the western outskirts of Albany, the Guilderland Fire District serves a population of nearly 40,000 in an area billed as “a desirable and attainable place for families and individuals of all ages to live and work.” The department prides itself in providing high quality emergency services to this pristine community. That’s why they chose a Hackney to replace an aged squad truck.
The chassis is a Spartan MetroStar with 6-man seating positions. The body features the exclusive Hackney Auto Deploy Staircase (ADS). Below are eleven huge storage compartments with two roof compartments providing over 800 cu.ft. of storage capacity, all easily accessible. Fold-down step platforms provide access to upper reaches of the compartments so that no storage space is inaccessible. The front bumper hinges down to access the 9000 lb. portable winch that is stored in that location when not in use or removed and relocated at the side and rear receiver locations. A slide-out Speedi-Dry hopper in the right side rear wheelhouse skirt panel dispenses 80-lbs at the pull of a lever without consuming valuable compartment space.
Other features include: 25kw generator powering four upper side body flood lights (two each side), one front cab brow light, and two removable tripod flood lights; two 240VAC cord reels with split 120VAC circuits in the power distribution box; multiple power outlets around the body and on the interior; two-bottle SCBA fill enclosure/cascade panel with six 6000 psi DOT receivers; utility air hose reels; stokes basket and (2) backboard storage tunnels; four built-in tool drawers; two slide-out tool boards and multiple slide-out trays and shelves.
