Greenfield, a community of approximately 20,000 situated along I-70 and US40 approximately 20 miles east of Indianapolis. The fire department placed Rescue 21 into service providing one of the most comprehensively equipped rescues in the Greater Indianapolis area. Boosting a storage capacity of over 830 cu.ft., not counting the roof coffin compartments, this is truly and heavy rescue capable of transporting a heavy volume of equipment.
It is mounted on a Spartan Gladiator LFD chassis with 24” raised roof cab and 400 hp Cummins engine. Located on the back wall of the cab, between left and right side seats, is a storage cabinet with roll-up doors and slide-out desk. The desk can be pulled forward for working from the two center rear facing seats.
A 35,000-watt Onan PTO generator provides power for a NightScan light tower mounted in the forward section of the recessed roof. 900-watt MagnaFire flood lights are surfaced mounted on the left and right upper side body (2 each side); upper rear body and front cab roof. In addition two removable tripod flood lights are mounted on the left rear body. The generator also powers Homaltro Simo pumps pre-connected to 100-ft reels. Two 200-ft cord reels provide remote power.
The drop-down front bumper provides convenient storage of a 9000 lb. Warn portable winch. It can be utilized in its stored location in the bumper or removed and placed into 10,000 lb receivers on the left and right side of the body and under the rear bumper.
Everything has a specific location and can be retrieved simply and rapidly without necessity of removing any other equipment. Note the 36” deep slide-out strut tray below, only possible because of 40” compartment depths.
All hydraulic rescue tools are accessible from a single location.
Only on a Hackney will you find the benefit of maximized utilization of interior storage space through the door opening. Integral roll-up door tracks means the door pass-thru is the same width as the interior side walls. The result is a body that provides much more storage capacity per inch than any other emergency vehicle body available.
