DES ALLEMANDS FIRE DEPARTMENT Des Allemands, Louisiana
When the Des Allemands Volunteer
Fire Department took delivery of a Hackney DF0982
mounted on a Spartan Metro Star MFD chassis to serve
the New Orleans metro-area Fire Apparatus Specialist,
the Louisiana dealer. along with the Hackney team,
did an outstanding job designing a rescue for the
department to take full advantage ot their vast storage
space.
Starting with 670 cu. ft. made it
much easier to store all the equipment that the fire
department need to carry on this unit. The focal point
of the truck is a 36.8 CFM compressor and a 2-bottle
Revolvair fill enclosure with four ASME air storage
bottles. An Onan 40kW 3-phase PTO generator powers
the compressor and a NightScan 9000 watt light tower.
This generator fits perfectly in the floor of the
#1 compartment on the roadside protected from the
silt associated with frequent flood waters in the
response area. The rescue is also equipped with three
Hannay hydraulic reels strategically placed with one
in the front bumper and two in the rear compartment.
it also contains a Hannay
ECR 1624-17-18 electric rewind cord reel and a Hannay
low pressure air reel with electric rewind, both mounted
above the two hydraulic reels in the rear compartment.
All four of the reels mounted in the rear compartment
have slide-out adjustable captive roller assemblies
to keep the hose from scarring the paint in those
moments when you do not have time to be careful.
Other options include a 12,000
lb. Ramsey electric winch attached to the fire service
stainless steel extended front bumper. The two rear
side compartments each contain two 38" wide x
22" deep adjustable shelves, one 600 lb. 38"
wide x 22" deep slide-out adjustable tray, and
one 600 lb. 39" wide x 22" deep fixed slide-out
tray. The rear compartment also contains an adjustable
slide-out tray and a fixed slide-out tray. On the
top of the body beside the 9000 watt light tower is
a roof compartment with gas shocks for ladder and
pike pole storage.
