The Circle V Fire Department protects the communities
around the world class golfing resorts of Pinehurst,
North Carolina. Their need was for both a heavy rescue
and an incident command apparatus, so they came to
the specialist, Emergency Apparatus of North Carolina
and Hackney, to design a unique piece of equipment
that would serve their needs for many years to come.
They chose a custom MFD cab and chassis with a 12"
raised roof that seats six firefighters. The chassis
is powered by a Detroit Series 40 and features vertical
exhaust.
The body is a 21 foot Hackney CR0682R
that provides over 500 cu.ft. of storage capacity
and incorporates a rear mounted command center and
recessed roof with storage compartments.
The command center provides a two-man
work station/desk with upper cabinets for resource
material and testing equipment storage. It is environmentally
controlled by a separate 120VAC air conditioner and
wall mounted heaters. Entrance to the command area
is via a right side door. Large sliding windows are
provided on the left side and rear of the command
center for 270 degree viewing of the incident area.
Electrical power is provided by
a 25KW Onan PTO generator. A 350 watt UPS power supply
is integrated into the electrical system to power
computers and other emergency support electronics
should there be a power failure or interruption. A
automatic transfer relay provides standby power through
the shorepower inlet. Other electrical equipment includes
two cord reels, multiple outlets, 1000W Focus flood
light on the upper rear body, 9000 watt NightScan
light tower with multi-direction light heads (permits
directing two 4500 watt separate lights heads in opposing
directions or all in the same direction) and 120V
fluorescent lights in all exterior compartments.
The emergency warning package chosen
was a Whelen strobe light system for the upper and
lower zones and a Federal eQ2B siren.
