CHARLESTON FIRE DEPARTMENT
Charleston, West Virginia
The Charleston Fire Department protects a population of over 58,000 people who live in an area of 33 square miles among the hills of West Virginia. Three interstates converge in Charleston, the capitol of West Virginia and the state's largest city: Interstates 64, 77 and 79. To serve the demands of this growing area, Charleston Fire Department chose a Hackney DFC0973R body that features 9 ground level compartments and two roof compartments, all within a short 160” wheelbase for maneuverability in the steep hills around the city.
A 25,000 watt PTO generator is located in the left front compartment. It powers flood lights in the upper left and right side body, rear tripod flood lights, portable flood lights; (3) cord reels with 200-ft 10/4 cable and a Nightscan light tower.
Rear is protected by LED traffic advisor and LED warning lights. Extrication tools; (2) hydraulic reels and ground ladders are easily accessible from the full height rear compartment.
Slide-out trays, tool boards and shelving help to organize the large amount of storage space that Hackney’s exclusive drop/pinch frame technology affords in the full height 40” deep compartments. Note the raised rear compartment for added angle-of-departure.
