BEAUFORT EMS
Beaufort, North Carolina
The historic City of Beaufort, North Carolina is now protected by a Hackney model DFC1164ADS heavy rescue mounted on a Spartan Advantage custom cab and chassis. Beaufort EMS serves the Crystal Coast region between Morehead City and the tip of the Outer Banks.
The 19.5-ft body features 11-compartments at ground level and two 14.5-ft long roof top compartments. Access to these 24” deep compartments is made safe and easy via Hackney’s exclusive Automatic Deploy Staircase (ADS). Also located on the roof, in the forward recess area, is a Will-Burt light tower.
Full body length electric awnings are provided on both sides of the body. All extrication tools and reels are located in the rear providing immediate deployment to either side of the apparatus. Hose reels feature slide-out roller guides.
A 25,000 watt PTO generator is located in the left front compartment, fully protected from the salt overspray prevalent in the coastal region. It powers flood lights in the upper left and right side body, rear tripod flood lights, front brow flood light and portable flood lights, plus two cord reels with 200-ft 10/4 cable.
A breathing air cascade system supported by four 6000 psi DOT storage vessels provides on scene refilling of SCBA and SCUBA’s. Spare SCBA bottles are stored in the aft wheelhouse compartment next to the fill station. One compartment is dedicated to rope rescue equipment and is completely isolated from all other compartments. Other features include a 9000 lb portable winch stored in the front drop down receiver location and 10,000 lb. receivers on the left, right and rear body. All NFPA warning lights, tail lights, traffic advisor light bar, clearance lights and compartment lights are LED. Audible warning is provided by a Federal Q2B and two-channel electronic sirens.
Access to all extrication tools located in the rear compartment is not hindered when the ADS is deployed, permitting personnel to access this compartment and equipment on the roof simultaneously. Note the slide-out Speedi-Dri hopper behind the rear wheels.
