IDAHO STATE BUREAU OF HOMELAND
SECURITY Caldwell Fire Dept & Idaho
Falls Fire Depart
The
state of Idaho Bureau of Homeland Security has taken
delivery of two (2) Hackney FC0786R Haz-Mat Emergency
Response Vehicles. The first two units were delivered
to the Caldwell Fire Department and the Idaho Falls
Fire Department. Both units are identical, except
for color. Caldwell will be responsible for Haz-Mat
incidents in the southwestern portion of Idaho, while
Idaho Falls will be handling the southeastern portion.
The bodies are mounted on a Kenworth T300 cab/chassis
with 330 hp Cummins engines. The body is 23-feet long
and 100 wide and features a 103 long forward
command center with a full 82 of clear headroom.
The command center includes a L shaped
set of cabinets and desk that runs the full width
and length of the interior. The upper storage cabinets
are constructed of aluminum. The desk top surface
is 304 stainless steel. Two FMVSS certified swivel
seats are provided with seat belts permitting operations
while enroute. A cab-to-body pass-thru is provided
for visual and verbal communications. Click on picture
for larger view.
Due to the requirements for the large command and
resource module at the front of the body, all space
beneath the floor was utilized with hinged door compartments.
There are three provided, two of which accommodate
the electric rewind reels. To maximize space in the
large compartment aft of the command resource center
the frame was modified using the exclusive Hackney
drop/pinch technology providing a full 40" of
compartment depth from the floor to the ceiling, crucial
considering the amount of equipment required to be
transported.
See drawings in Hazmat main page for compartment layout
which features: two 68" high x 36" deep
two-sided slide-out tool boards; multiple adjustable
shelves and trays; slide-out SCBA rack that accommodates
six complete SCBAs retrievable from either side
of the body; four 6000 psi DOT air cylinders; two-bottle
SCBA fill enclosure; and a Decon/Eye Wash station
with 100 gallon water tank.
The recessed roof features two full length storage
compartments measuring 26" wide x 28" high.
Full body length awnings are installed on the left
and right sides of the body with one set of perimeter
curtains. Click on the picture for a larger view of
the top.
The truck is completely multiplexed
and included diagnostic hardware. A Federal NFPA 1901
warning package provides protection during emergency
responses. An Onan 25KW PTO generator provides plenty
of power for the 20-ft light tower equipped with two
MagnaFire 900 watt flood lights and two awesome 110,000
lumen metal-halide lamps with rotate in opposite directions
or all in one direction. Other lighting includes 900
watt MagnaFire flood lights recessed in the upper
side body (2 on each side) and one on the upper rear
body. Cord reels are provided on both sides. Interior
outlets and lighting is powered by both the generator
and shorepower through an automatic transfer relay.
Breathing air capacity was crucial to the overall
mission of the truck since many response zones may
not have backup breathing air within hours of the
incident. A four-bank cascade system with two-bottle
fill enclosure is provided, along with spare SCBA
bottles to support remote operations.
