The
Burlington County Office of Emergency Management,
headquartered in Mount Holly, New Jersey, purchased
a Hackney DF0882 Haz Mat vehicle to serve the citizens
of Burlington County and surrounding jurisdictions.
The 17.5-ft body was specially designed to carry dedicated
hazmat response equipment.
The body featured six 40" wide
x 82" high x 40" deep compartments (four
forward of rear wheels and two aft of rear wheels).
The compartment over the rear wheels measured 74"
wide x 57" high x 90" deep. The huge cubic
foot displacement is made possible by utilization
of the Hackney Drop/Pinch frame technology. The entire
vehicle was designed to meet all NFPA 1901 requirements.
The chassis of choice was an International
4400, four-door cab with seating for five personnel.
The roof was designed using aggressive
aluminum treadplate. Access to the roof is via an
OSHA compliant ladder centered on the rear of the
body. A full length awning is installed on the street
side for staging and logistics operations.
The electrical system is fully multiplexed
and includes a large color display control screen
on the cab console. Halogen 12-volt scene lights are
provided, two on each upper side body and two on the
rear. Underbody ground lights further provides a safe
night operations zone. All emergency light is Whelen
strobe.
A 25,000 watt Onan PTO generator
is mounted inside the left front compartment protected
from corrosive winter road salts. The generator powers
flood lights, outlets, cord reel and refrigerator.
A 185 cfm PTO powered rotary air
compressor is installed beneath the cab. It features
two 1" air connections for air operated transfer
pumps, jack hammers and other high volume tools. It
is also regulated to provide utility air to recessed
air outlets and 150-ft air hose reel for standard
air provisions.
Located on the left front corner
of the body is a telescoping pole for installation
of a weather station. The station monitor is located
on the cab console.
A 10,000 lb. trailer hitch
and 7-pin connected is installed on the rear for auxiliary
equipment trailer towing.
