The Fire Marshall´s
Office with the Town of Brookhaven, New York took
delivery of two Hackney´s in early 2000. Truck
#1 is a Hackney DF1182 Haz-Mat body with eleven compartments
and a total of 800 cu.ft. of storage capacity (excluding
the roof comp´ts). It is mounted on a Freightliner
FL 70 with Cummins ISC, 300 hp engine and vertical
exhaust. Electrical power is provided by an Onan Pro
Tec 40,000 watt, 3-phase PTO generator. Besides powering
the 6,000 watt NightScan light tower, two 240V cord
reels, portable flood lights, refrigerator and numerous
outlets, the generator also has a 100 amp power connection
for providing emergency standby power. Full body length
awnings are provided both the left and right sides
of the body. A ladder compartment is installed on
the roof and is accessed by an OSHA compliant ladder
on the right rear of the body. A slide-out rack is
supplied that will accommodate eight complete SCBA´s
with back-up and go provisions. Next to the slide
rack are eight (8) spare SCBA bottle storage tubes.
The right front compartment houses a slide-out Level
A suit rack. Truck #2 is a former tractor that was
converted to a straight chassis by the town and shipped
to Hackney to have a four compartment body installed
for Technical Rescue operations. This truck has a
30,000 lb. hitch on the rear and will be used for
pulling an existing heavy decontamination trailer.
