The Wallington Emergency Squad provides a regional response team that specializes in underwater dive and recovery operations in northeastern New Jersey, just across the East River from New York City.
The team chose a Hackney model UT600 utility body mounted on a Ford F550 four-wheel drive cab/chassis. The 15-ft all-aluminum body provides three exterior compartments on each side with roll-up doors for immediate access to dive support equipment. The forward compartment is transverse.
Located on the rear of the body is a personnel entrance door that accesses the interior where a two-man flip-up squad bench is located. The interior compartment is environmentally controlled with heat and air conditioning and provides a changing room for getting into and out of SCUBA suits and a rehab area. The seats are also provided with certified seatbelts should the team wish to ride to the scene.
Storage racks and shelving are provided on the interior for suits and other equipment, along with tubes for ten extra SCUBA tanks. The electrical system is fully multiplexed and all emergency lighting is Whelen LED. Halogen scene light are installed around the perimeter.
