The Special Operations Division of the Raleigh Police Department has placed a Special Ops Response Vehicle into service. The body is just over 14.5-ft long and features nine (9) spacious compartments.
The chassis is a Chevrolet C5500 with 330hp diesel engine and Allison automatic transmission. Even though classified as a light-duty chassis, it provides a 21,500 lb. GVWR. The roof bright aluminum tread plate welded fully around the perimeter. The anti-slip surface provides a platform for personnel to walk on the roof to retrieve additional equipment stored in the roof coffin compartment.
The roll-up doors provides unencumbered access to all storage equipment and weapons and can be securely locked from a single point on each respective side.
A full body length awning on the curb side provides shelter for tactical operations.
A 12,000 watt PTO generator is mounted beneath the body, thereby not consuming any valuable interior storage space. The generator provides on-scene flood lighting from four (4) removable tripod flood lights and other power options via a 200-ft cord reel.
Only on a Hackney will you find the benefit of maximized utilization of interior storage space through the door opening. Integral roll-up door tracks means the door pass-thru is the same width as the interior side walls. The result is a body that provides much more storage capacity per inch than any other emergency vehicle body available.
