LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT Los Angeles, California
The Los Angeles Police Department ArchAngel project now operates from a Future Concepts/Hackney communications vehicle with the latest state-of-the-art communications systems.
The 15-ft all-aluminum body is mounted on a Freightliner M2-106 low-profile chassis with air brakes. A bank of six deep-cycle batteries are located in the right front compartment with a 90-amp battery conditioner designed to operate the entire communications system and related computers. The system is designed to be able to function entirely off the battery system, should the generator fail or not be desired to be running for noise abatement for up to six hours (for more information regarding this Antares based technology, contact Future Concepts at 909-593-6705).
Primary power is supplied by a 10.0kw Onan QuietOne® diesel generator. Both the chassis and generator exhaust is plumbed vertically above the body. The entire body electrical system is fully multiplexed. All lighting (clearance, tail, compartment and warning) are LED for low amperage draw. Two air conditioner units provide environment comfort with one dedicated specifically for the electronics rack dumping cooled air directly into the electronics cabinets.
The interior has sound deadening agents to allow the three dedicated technicians an undisturbed work environment. All cabinets are aluminum. All work stations and counters are 1-1/4" solid surface.
Two primary work stations are on the forward wall with one auxiliary work station on the street side wall. The four 20" LCD monitors at the forward work station are all linked allowing any individual view to be dragged from monitor to monitor, acting virtually as a single panoramic monitor.
All electronics are easily accessed for service through the two exterior compartment doors. The lower compartment door (not shown) beneath the doors folds down to provide a work platform. Doors are heavily insulated and soundproofed.
Looking back toward the rear door. Additional equipment mounting rails are provided along the full length of both walls allowing mounting of additional monitors and other equipment. Note the back wiring traces at the back of the work stations permitting simple routing of cables from the electronics cabinet to any work location as the vehicle is upgraded at a future date.
A 25-ft tower with surveillance camera, rapid deploy antenna, including cellular transceivers and AVL SAT dish. A rear mounted ladder provides safe access to a anti-slip tread plate roof. Fold-down steps provides safe entrance and exit to the interior.
